Welcome to the Southern Arctic, a place where natures abundance and diversity are subdued by the harsh climate and terrain. Covering almost eight hundred thousand square meters, the habitats of this giant ecozone are the same: sprawling shrub lands, wet sedge meadows, and cold clear lakes. The land of the Southern Arctic is vast and unique creating fascinating shapes and textures from the intense frost action in the soil. It spans from the northern coast of mainland Northwest territories to a portion of northwestern Quebec, stretching across mainland Nunavut.
For thousands of years, a large abundance of animals lured hunters from both sides of the treeline. They most often come in the fall to secure food for the winter. However, the Southern Arctic is not a popular home for most other people. Its cold temperatures and immense amounts of snow drive them away. A large majority of these people are Inuit and live off the land and it's natural resources.
